Fuel import is increasing in Georgia. In March, oil product import made 96,7 thousand tons, which is 22 thousand tons more than in February. Within the same period, petrol fuel import made 48,0 thousand tons and diesel fuel import made 48,7 thousand tons.
In total, in Q1 of the current year, 242,5 thousand tons of oil products were imported, in Georgia, which is 52,4 thousand tons more than within the same period last year.
By countries, in January-March 2018, biggest volume of petrol and diesel fuel was imported from Russia – 84,4 thousand tons, which was 34% of total import. Russia was followed by: Romania – 58 thousand tons (23,9%), Turkmenistan – 39,3 thousand tons (16,2%); Azerbaijan – 30,6 thousand tons (12,6%), Bulgaria – 18,2 thousand tons (7,5%); Greece – 11,8 thousand tons (4,9%).
For comparison, in 2017, by countries, the biggest volume of petrol and diesel fuel was imported again from Russia – 46,5 thousand tons, which was 24,5% of total import. Russia was followed by: Romania – 44,1 thousand tons (23,2%), Bulgaria – 40,2 thousand tons (21,1%); Turkmenistan – 25,2 thousand tons (13,2%), etc.
As to the largest importers of oil products, according to information provided to Forbes by GeoStat, last year, the biggest volume of oil products was imported by following companies:

Rompetrol Georgia
LUK Oil Georgia
Sun Petroleum Georgia
According to Georgia’s Oil Product Importers’ Union, as per Q1 of the current year, import and consumption of fuel in Georgia has been quite high during recent years, although, import of hybrid and low consumption vehicles is growing, which significantly decreases fuel consumption.
