His outlook centers on creating teams that consistently exceed client expectations while sustaining business relationships.

From Startup Struggles to Billion-Dollar Success

Mr. Silvia’s career spans multiple company successes. At Enterprise Database (EDB), he led the global services team through remarkable growth, helping guide the company to a billion-dollar exit between 2019 and 2022. Previously, as chief customer officer at Workspan Inc., he focused on client satisfaction and retention strategies that directly contributed to business expansion.

“I’ve learned that success comes from surrounding yourself with people who are smarter than you in their areas,” Mr. Silvia explains. “When you invest in others’ growth, everyone wins.”

Mr. Silvia’s technology journey began at Ascential Software, where he helped grow the company from startup to $300 million in revenue before IBM acquired it for $1.8 billion. At IBM, Mr. Silvia spent more than a decade directing strategic partnerships and virtual services, contributing to the company’s software expansion following the Ascential acquisition.

Building Tomorrow’s Business Leaders

Mr. Silvia earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Suffolk University in Boston in 2001 and holds multiple IBM certifications in cloud strategy, hybrid cloud and data platforms. His father, a respected industry executive, taught him essential lessons about working effectively with others and understanding market dynamics.

“The best leaders create environments where teams can do their best work,” Mr. Silvia notes. “It’s about removing obstacles and giving people the tools they need to succeed.”

In the future, Mr. Silvia plans to offer consulting services to companies, helping them avoid common growth challenges. He also aims to join corporate boards where he can guide organizations through critical development phases.

“Every company faces similar hurdles as they scale,” Mr. Silvia observes. “Having someone who’s been through those challenges can make the difference between struggling and thriving.”

The Curious Mind Behind the Success

Mr. Silvia is known for his perspective on learning and problem-solving. “I’ve always been curious about everything,” he reveals. “I’ve always been able to identify my strengths versus my weaknesses. I have always had the ability to look at things and see that, ‘Whoa, I’m not really an expert there. I’ll refer to people who are qualified.'”

The partnership focus remains central to Mr. Silvia’s current work at ActivTrak, where employee analytic components and how people perceive and adapt to AI technology are key priorities. Mr. Silvia sees these developments as natural extensions of the collaborative method that has defined his career.

Family First, Business Second

Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Silvia’s personal values drive his viewpoint, leadership and life. “I’m big on communities and kids. Family is a huge component to me,” he states. This commitment extends beyond his immediate family to his role as a father, where he takes particular pride in raising his son, whom he describes as “a great child.”

Mr. Silvia personal interests reflect this balance between professional drive and family commitment. Mr. Silvia enjoys skiing, spending time with his athlete son, boating and sport fishing. He also has a passion for dogs, activities that keep him grounded outside the demanding technology sector.

“Once I engage in something, I hate to fail. I always try to see things through,” Mr. Silvia explains. “Negative decisions are still decisions, and I try to turn them around quickly and efficiently.” This persistence, combined with his family-centered process, has created a leadership style that values both results and relationships.

Mr. Silvia’s five-year vision includes helping his son start his career as he graduates from college, demonstrating how personal and professional goals intertwine in his planning. Mr. Silvia also considers purchasing legacy service companies in various sectors, aiming to build a corporation he could pass down to his children and their friends.
