ExxonMoil will start a geological study in Georgia – A contract for the research of geological and geophysical materials has already been signed between the LEPL Oil and Gas Agency under the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable development and ExxonMobil.
Within the frameworks of the contract, the company will assess the potential of hydrocarbons in West Georgia. The parties agreed that the agency will pass on data on geological and geophysical elements, which the company will study. As a result, ExxonMobil will prepare a report and integrated database that will be handed over to the government.
According to a representative of the company, Jonathan Wilson, ExxonMobil is happy to cooperate with Georgia and to have an opportunity to use their experience to assess the potential of the hydrocarbons of Georgia.
“On behalf of ExxonMobil, I would like to say that we are happy to be here and to have signed the contract. It has been over a decade that we have been working in the black sea and nearby regions and we are ready to apply our knowledge and experience to assess the potential of Georgia. We hope that we will work closely with the relevant government agencies. It is also very nice that we signed the contract in this beautiful city, Tbilisi” – stated Jonathan Wilson.
As stated by the head of Oil and Gas State Agency, Giorgi Tatishvili, working with one of the largest companies ExxonMobil is very important.
“Based on this contract, after ExxonMobil studies the materials given by the agency, the company will submit a report about the potential of hydrocarbon resources in west Georgia to the state agency. This report will be used to plan forthcoming work, which should lead us to new discoveries for oil and gas extraction” – stated Tatishvili
According to him, ExxonMobil will also train the employees of the agency in both use of the database and stratigraphic analysis.
