According to the final results of the Unified National Exams, in 2018 27,906 students successfully completed university entrance exams. Approximately 70% of the students who completed these exams
were accepted into institutions of higher education.
According to the 2018 Unified National Exams, based on first choice ratings the top choice from among the existing 623 bachelor’s programmes is the bachelors programme in philosophy at Ilia State University. The number of vacant places is 15. It was nominated 131 times as students’ first choice. The competition with regards to applicants per place based on the first choice was 8.73.
The second place spot is held by the International Relations programme at Tbilisi State University, where 70 places were available. The number of times it received first choice selection amounted to 449 and the competition per place based on the first choice was 6.4.
Third place is held by the Engineering Security Programme at Tbilisi Technical University. There were 20 vacant places, 86 nominations for first choice selection, and the competition per place based on the first choice was 4.3.
In fourth place is the Faculty of Medicine at Tbilisi State University. There were 75 vacant places, 301 nominations for first choice selection, and the competition per place based on first choice was 4.04.
In fifth place is the Faculty of Law at Shota Rustaveli State University with 75 vacant places. The number of first place selection amounted to 297 and the competition per place based on first choice was 3.9.
The sixth placeholder is Georgian philology at Ilia State University with 90 available places. It was selected as the first choice 329 times and the competition per place based on the first choice was 3.66.
In seventh place is the Faculty of Biology at Ilia State University with 55 available places. The number of first choice selection comes to 201 and the competition per place based on the first choice was 3.65.
In eighth place is the Faculty of Maritime Navigation at the Maritime Academy. The number of available places was 175. The number of first choice selection amounted to 624 and the competition for per place based on the first choice was 3.56.
Ninth place goes to the Graphic Design Programme at the Academy of Arts which had 12 available places. The number of first place selection came to 43 and the competition per place based on the first choice was 3.5.
Tenth places goes to the philology bachelors programme at TSU. The number of available places was 25 and the number of first place selection choices was 85. The competition per place based on the first choice was 3.4.
The first choice competition is determined by the following principles: the first place selection, i.e. amount of people applying for a university, is made into quantitative data and divided by the number of vacant places for a bachelor/specific bachelor programme at the university. In terms of the programmes, the top 5 choices based on students’ selection as their first choice were: Business administration at Ilia State University which was selected by students 2095 times; Arts and Science bachelor’s programme at Ilia State University with 2005 selections as a first choice; the Faculty of Law at Tbilisi State University with 1215 first choice selections; the Construction programme at Georgian Technical University with 1044 first choice selections, and the Faculty of law at Ilia State University with 1046 first choice selections.
According to the student’s first choice, Free University is in the highest demand, which offered 545 available places this year. 1069 students selected the free university as their first choice, bringing the competition for each place to 1.96. Ilia State University announced 9847 available places for bachelors programmes this year and 6579 students selected bachelor’s programmes at Ilia State University as their first choice, bringing the competition per place to 1.92, 0.04 lower than the competition per place in comparison to Free University.
