The new government will be comprised of 10 ministries and 1 state minister’s office. Mamuka Bakhtadze, the Prime Minister of Georgia, elaborated on the changes in the government at today’s briefing.
According to the changes, the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection will be merged with the Ministry of Education and Science. It should be pointed out that last year, the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection was merged with the Ministry of Sports.
Ministry of Correction will be merged with the Ministry of Justice.
The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees will be abolished and its functions will be distributed over three ministries, namely: the migration component will be taken over by the Ministry of Interior, social policy part will go to the Ministry of Health and other functions will be transferred to the Ministry of Infrastructure.
According to the changes, the spatial development component will be transferred from the Ministry of Economy to the Ministry of Infrastructure.
As stated the prime Minister, there will be new faces in the Cabinet of Ministers. Consultations regarding this issue have been completed; however, Mamuka Bakhtadze has not named the new Ministers yet.
“I am convinced that this vision is in full harmony with public demand. We need a smaller government and bureaucracy in the country. We cannot afford spending on governance more than is needed to tackle the challenges faced by our economy today”, – Mamuka Bakhtadze stated.
